BEHAVIOUR POLICY

Sportsfulminds believes that children flourish in an environment of mutual respect and encouragement where everybody knows what is expected of them. We acknowledge that clear, fair boundaries must be set for children’s behaviour. Staff members caring for children in the provision can manage a wide range of children’s behaviour in a way that promotes their welfare and development.

To establish such an environment staff must ensure that children are made aware of what is acceptable and that which is not and encourage children to report any incidences that occur without fear of reprisal. At SportsfulMinds we are committed to ensuring every child enjoys their experience of camp every day.

Staff will use the following procedure when dealing with inappropriate behaviour.

*If the behaviour displayed is either; physical, racial or puts other children/staff at significant risk then the child will immediately take ‘time out’ from the activity and the procedures relating to this will occur. If the behaviour is displayed for the second time, the child will be sent home from camp and relevant procedures will take place.

Unacceptable behavior

Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Shouting at members of staff, whether in person or over the telephone

  • Physically intimidating a member of staff, e.g. standing too close or blocking their exit

  • Using aggressive or abusive hand gestures, e.g. shaking a fist towards another person

  • Any other threatening behavior, both physical and verbal

  • Swearing

  • Physical violence: pushing, hitting, slapping, punching or kicking

  • Spitting

  • Racist or sexist or otherwise abusive comments.

If a child is sent home from camp:

Camp Leader will then decide on whether the child can return for future camps. This may be either a form of temporary or permanent exclusion.

If a child is temporarily excluded, they will be welcome back to camp after their exclusion period. Parents/bookers will not be entitled to a refund for the day or period of exclusion.

If a child is permanently excluded from camp, parents/bookers will not receive a refund for any dates booked.

Bullying:

SportsfulMinds does not accept any form of bullying.

If a child believes they are being bullied, then they are encouraged to report this to a staff member. Once a member of staff has been informed, they will report the incident to the Camp Manager who will then discuss the matter with the child and with their Leader. If the Camp Manager believes that there is a legitimate complaint, they will then need to discuss the matter with the person being accused of bullying.

It is worth bearing in mind that the child accused of bullying may have issues of their own, resulting in this behaviour, that need to be dealt with sensitively and fairly. There may be reasons for bullying but there are no excuses for such behaviour. If we are convinced that bullying has taken place, we will decide what action is appropriate. All bullying cases will follow the normal Behaviour Policy.
